"Freckles after 30 are caused by excessive sun exposure", dermatologist Griet Voet
Light brown freckles on your nose. Cute. But where do they come from? And why do you see so many more of them in summer than in winter? According to dermatologist Griet Voet, they are genetically determined. Sometimes they skip a generation. Your parents may have no freckles while you are covered in them. They are more common in young people. Suddenly getting lots of freckles after 30? Those are probably sunspots caused by ageing and excessive sun exposure. People with freckles should apply more sunscreen, but they are also more aware of the risks of the sun. Applying sunscreen remains important.
