Does a massage device help against cellulite?
Het Nieuwsblad, 26 February 2025
In Het Nieuwsblad, Dr Griet Voet assesses whether massage devices work against cellulite and when cryolipolysis is a better choice.

In its 'Werkt dat wel?' (Does it work?) column, Het Nieuwsblad tests the claims of massage devices against cellulite. Dr Griet Voet and a dermatologist from UZ Gent give their verdict.
Suction devices can somewhat improve blood flow and fluid drainage, but according to Dr Voet the effect is small and only visible in mild to moderate cellulite. No treatment removes cellulite completely. She expects little from cheap devices.
To remove localised excess fat, she points to cryolipolysis, in which fat cells are frozen, provided the treatment is carried out by a doctor in an accredited clinic.
Key advice
Expect at most a small, temporary effect from massage devices.
According to the doctors, cheap devices do little or nothing.
For localised excess fat, cryolipolysis with a doctor is a better option.
“The chance that cheap devices have any effect is negligible” — Dr Griet Voet
