What is Profhilo and what does it do for your skin?

In HLN, Dr Griet Voet and aesthetic doctor Dr Fran Baete explain what Profhilo is: an injectable treatment with hyaluronic acid that is placed in the skin rather than beneath it. The product has been available in Europe since 2016-2017 and is scientifically supported.

The hyaluronic acid spreads through the skin, hydrates deeply and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Unlike fillers it does not add volume, and unlike Botox® it does not act on the muscles, which gives a natural result. Besides the face, the neck, knees or abdomen can also be treated. The standard treatment consists of two sessions a month apart. It is mainly recommended from the age of 30 to 35; in older skin the effect is smaller, and deep folds call for a filler instead.

Key advice

  • Profhilo improves skin quality and hydration, but does not add volume.

  • Deep folds are better treated with a filler.

  • The effect is usually greater in younger skin.

  • Let a doctor decide which treatment suits your face.

“You can also use it to treat the neck or other areas of your body such as your abdomen or legs” — Dr Griet Voet and Dr Fran Baete
