What can you do about a sagging neck?
Het Nieuwsblad, 3 May 2025
Is a sagging neck related to the menopause? In Het Nieuwsblad, Dr Griet Voet discusses the causes and possible treatments.

This piece in Het Nieuwsblad was prompted by a video by Evi Hanssen about the sagging skin on her neck. The article looks at how the menopause affects the skin, and Dr Griet Voet discusses the possible solutions.
Over the years, collagen, hyaluronic acid and moisture in the skin decrease, leading to less elasticity and wrinkles. According to Dr Voet, however, studies link wrinkles more to general ageing and skin type than to the menopause itself.
If you want to do something about it, she says you can try collagen supplements, although more research is needed. At an early stage, Botox® injections in the neck can help; for sagging, skinboosters; and beyond that, a thread lift or ultimately surgery.
Key advice
Collagen supplements can somewhat improve elasticity and hydration, but the evidence is still limited.
At an early stage, Botox® in the neck can slow down the process.
For early sagging, skinboosters can improve skin quality.
For more advanced sagging, a thread lift or surgery are options.
“Once skin sagging has set in, so-called skinboosters such as Profhilo can improve skin texture, elasticity and hydration.” — Dr Griet Voet
