What skincare trends did 2025 and 2026 bring?

In Het Nieuwsblad, Dr Griet Voet looks back on 2025 and ahead to 2026. Injectables such as botulinum toxin took the place that laser treatments used to hold. Less skincare became more popular than elaborate routines, and the 3D skin scan received more attention for the early detection of skin cancer.

She warns against TikTok hypes, such as using a wound-healing cream as a night cream, which can cause spots. She hopes that distrust of sunscreen will disappear, as sunscreens in Europe meet strict standards. In medical dermatology, she mentions a new reimbursed cream for vitiligo. For 2026, she expects more attention for microbiome care and for research into diet and skin conditions, and she advises choosing a real expert for aesthetic procedures.

Key advice

  • Do not doubt sunscreen: products sold in Europe are safe.

  • Do not use greasy wound-healing creams as a night cream over the whole face.

  • For aesthetic treatments, choose a real specialist.
