Does face yoga work for a firmer face?
Het Nieuwsblad, 11 August 2025
Does face yoga make your face firmer? In Het Nieuwsblad, Dr Griet Voet discusses what studies say and what you can expect.

On social media, facial exercises are promoted as a way to look younger. Het Nieuwsblad asked three experts, including Dr Griet Voet, whether that is true.
Dr Voet explains that targeted exercises can strengthen the facial muscles and that there are indications that muscle activity stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. A small study in middle-aged women showed a measurable effect, but whether it is also visible to others has not been demonstrated. Moreover, you would have to practise for half an hour every day.
For a sagging chin or skin, she refers people to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. For a puffy face after sleeping, however, a short massage can help temporarily, for example with a gua sha or clean hands.
Key advice
Expect at most a small effect from face yoga, and only with daily effort.
For morning puffiness, a massage with a gua sha or clean hands can help temporarily.
For a sagging double chin or skin, it is better to consult a doctor.
“This is a large investment of time for a minimal effect compared with conventional aesthetic treatments.” — Dr Griet Voet
