Effective scar treatment

Scars can cause medical complaints such as pain, itching or excessive thickening, but can also be aesthetically bothersome.
Scars

Scars form when the skin heals after a wound, surgery, acne or inflammation. The type of scar determines the approach: hypertrophic and keloid scars are thickened and raised, whereas atrophic scars such as acne scars are instead sunken. We also treat stretch marks (from pregnancy or growth) as well as scars that remain red or discoloured for a long time at our clinic in Gent.

For medical indications, cortisone injections and tailored topical treatments soften the scar tissue and reduce pain, itching and inflammation. For aesthetic optimisation, we apply techniques such as microneedling or fractional laser treatment, often combined with plasma injections (PRP) to stimulate the skin's natural repair. Scars that remain red or discoloured are treated in a targeted way with vascular or pigment lasers that address only the discolouration, without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Every scar is unique. During a consultation, our dermatologists assess the type, age and location of the scar and draw up a personalised treatment plan, aimed at achieving the most natural result possible.
